Faith

We don’t hear a lot about faith today, it seems.  We live in a world that thinks one must be able to taste, touch, hear, smell or see a thing or it does not exist.  Yet we believe that time exists.  We take time on faith.  Why then do we quibble about faith in God?  Let’s look at faith.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  (Hebrews 11:1)  That goes to the heart of the matter, doesn’t it?  God tells us that we must accept Him and His Word on faith.  We must accept what He says by an active act of will, not because we can perceive it physically.  God expects us to believe because we trust Him.

Everyone, even the most devout atheist, can believe in God and have faith because God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.  (Romans 12:3)  Some actively choose not to use that faith.  However, for those who choose to grow their faith, we are told that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.  (Romans 10:17)  We must her or read the pure Word of God for our faith in Him to grow and become firm.

The Apostle Paul wrote:  I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it s the power of God for everyone who believes.  For in it, the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, the righteous shall live by faith.  (Romans 1:17)  It should be equally obvious that the reverse is true.  Those who do not live by faith in God are not accounted as righteous.  Certainly, those who are righteous, who live by faith, are the only ones who God counts as acceptable to Him.

Therefore, in spite of this present world and its teachings, it is vital that  we walk by faith, not by sight.  (II Corinthians 5:7)  We must trust, with all our hearts, that our Heavenly Father will help us when we face problems in this life.  We must have faith that God exists and that He loves us and has left directions for us to follow.  We must believe that without faith it s impossible to please Him, for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.  (Hebrews 11:6 It is because of this faith that we trust I God, read His Word, and try to live  as He would have us live.

Considering this, we know that we must have faith; we must have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in His prophets and you will be successful.  (II Chronicles 20:20)  Thus, in spite of the modern doubters, the only way to be acceptable and pleasing to God is to have faith in Him and His Word.

What say ye?
